Virtual 1:1 Nutrition Coaching for Parents

What Makes This 1:1 Nutrition Coaching Experience Different?

I know feeding a child and the whole family (including YOURSELF) isn’t easy these days. We’re inundated with nutrition information and feeding advice from the media, doctor, school, grandma, and your mom-friends.

We all want our kids to be healthy, feel good in their bodies, and not struggle with food.  We want that for ourselves, too! But oftentimes the pressure from society and the conflicting information we hear makes it really stressful and difficult to know what the right thing to do is when it comes to feeding and eating.

“How do I handle sweets?” “How do I get my child to eat vegetables?” “Is my child getting enough nutrition to grow and thrive?” “Should I go on a diet to improve my own health?” (Spoiler alert: No!)

Friends and fellow parents, it doesn’t have to be this way.  All of this stress is actually damaging to your health, not promoting it.

And you probably already know this because instead of feeling healthy and confident in your own skin and feeding practices, you’re feeling overwhelmed, run-down, and more stressed than ever about food and how to set your child up for a better future.

My approach to feeding and eating is through the principles of Intuitive Eating – a way of eating based on your body’s internal cues (such as hunger and fullness) and not external rules. It’s a gentle nutrition approach that takes into consideration your mental and physical health so you can feel your best and build a healthy relationship with food.

Raising an intuitive eater starts from the get-go.  Most of us are born intuitive eaters, but we often lose this trust in our bodies as we grow up in a culture that is obsessed with dieting and unrealistic expectations of what bodies should look like.  The way we feed, respond to mealtime struggles, talk about food and bodies, and model eating behaviors is going to affect a child’s relationship with food and body for a lifetime!

Through this unique, one-on-one coaching experience, I can teach you parental feeding practices to instill your child’s intuitive eating capabilities, overcome the challenges of feeding kids (like picky eating), and provide optimal nutrition so they can grow up with body trust, health, and vitality!  All while having MORE FUN and LESS STRESS.  We can start at any point.  I guide parents through baby-led weaning, the picky eating phase in toddlerhood, and beyond!

If you want to work on your own Intuitive Eating journey so you can feel your best and be that amazing role model for your kids, I am here for you, too!  That’s where this unique, highly individualized coaching experience comes in. This isn’t your average nutrition coaching program- it’s an opportunity to work with me one-on-one to truly improve your health and wellbeing FOR GOOD! It’s completely personalized to meet your needs.

Unlike dieting programs that want you to be a lifetime member, I want to help you develop the skills you need to do this ON YOUR OWN for the rest of your life! And pass these skills on to your kids so we can end diet culture for generations to come.

What's Included in this Coaching Program?

A personalized roadmap.  We’ll take a deep dive into your history and personal goals- whether that’s working on your own Intuitive Eating journey OR your parental feeding practices to nourish your child in the most supportive way possible for a happy, healthy future. Maybe it’s both! We’ll take it one step at a time according to your unique needs and lifestyle to achieve your goals for the entire family.  It’s not a one-size-fits-all approach!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS A REGISTERED DIETITIAN NUTRITIONIST?

A Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD or RDN) is a health professional who has special training in food and nutrition. RDs offer support to individuals who want to improve their health and wellbeing through diet.  Like other professions, RDs usually specialize in a certain area of nutrition or patient population.

WHAT AREA OF NUTRITION DO YOU SPECIALIZE IN?

I am a Family Dietitian, as well as a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor.  I specialize in helping parents, teens and individuals heal their relationship with food, body, and movement.  I also help parents raise intuitive eaters to help prevent their child from going down the dangerous path of dieting and disordered eating. My background is in pediatrics, so I’m trained to work with children of all ages. And I love a whole family approach to food and nutrition!

WHAT IS INTUITIVE EATING?

Intuitive eating is a non-diet approach to health and wellness that focuses on listening to your body signals, breaking the cycle of chronic dieting, and healing your relationship with food. It was created by two registered dietitians, Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, in 1995. Intuitive eating is an evidence-based model and is based on 10 principles.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO RAISE AN INTUITIVE EATER?

The goal in raising an intuitive eater is to help the child trust their innate wisdom that guides their eating, which we are all born with.  Think of a baby who cries when they are hungry.  When they are fed, this is the first way they learn to trust their hunger cues.  If they aren’t fed, they will learn very early on to disconnect, which is a survival mechanism.  So from the very beginning, we want to help the child self-regulate and trust those cues that tell them when they’re hungry and need nourishment, and how much they need to feel full and satisfied. The way we feed children, as well as how we talk about food and bodies through their growing up years greatly impacts their ability to stay in tune with their bodies, trust their bodies to guide their eating, and have a positive relationship with ALL food for a lifetime!   In other words, I help parents implement positive parental feeding practices to prevent eating disorders and disordered eating down the line while promoting whole health and wellbeing.

WHAT IS A “WEIGHT-INCLUSIVE” APPROACH?

A weight inclusive approach is an alternative to the weight-centered paradigm. It takes the emphasis off of weight as a focal point in healthcare. Instead, it focuses on self-care behaviors and minimizes weight stigma. It challenges the belief that a person’s BMI reflects their lifestyle, health status, or moral character.

WHAT IS HAES®?

Health at Every Size® is a philosophy based on the following five principles:

  • Weight Inclusivity: Accept and respect the inherent diversity of body shapes and sizes and reject the idealizing or pathologizing of specific weights.
  • Health Enhancement: Support health policies that improve and equalize access to information and services, and personal practices that improve human well-being, including attention to individual physical, economic, social, spiritual, emotional, and other needs.
  • Respectful Care: Acknowledge our biases, and work to end weight discrimination, weight stigma, and weight bias. Provide information and services from an understanding that socio-economic status, race, gender, sexual orientation, age, and other identities impact weight stigma, and support environments that address these inequities.
  • Eating for Well-being: Promote flexible, individualized eating based on hunger, satiety, nutritional needs, and pleasure, rather than any externally regulated eating plan focused on weight control.
  • Life-Enhancing Movement: Support physical activities that allow people of all sizes, abilities, and interests to engage in enjoyable movement, to the degree that they choose.
